Citronella consists mainly of C. citratus for cooking and C. nardus for refining citronella oil, both of which belong to the genus Cymbopogon and have slender leaves resembling miscanthus. C. citratus is abundant in Southeast Asia, or in the form of stems or powder in the seasoning market; C. nardus, due to its poor taste, is dedicated to industrial refining of essential oils. There are occasional red citronella nouns, referring to C. nardus compared with the former, the root of the leaves more red.
