Chinese Star anise

Star anise, also known as Illicium verum, is a spice that comes from the fruit of the Chinese evergreen tree Illicium verum. The star-shaped fruit is harvested before it ripens and is used in traditional Chinese medicine and food. 

Star anise has a strong flavor and a licorice-like taste, similar to cinnamon but with a sweet profile. It can add depth to soups, flavored sugars, and braises. 

Star anise has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. It contains bioactive compounds that may help treat fungal, bacterial, and viral infections. Star anise seeds also contain chemicals that may have antibacterial effects. 

Some anise products may contain fake star anises, which can cause serious side effects such as: Diarrhea, Hallucinations, Seizures, Vomiting.
